MAIN RISK FACTORS OF TRAFFIC INJURY AMONG PEDESTRIANS
Abstract. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users. They account for the largest number of victims of road accidents. According to the World Health Organization, road traffic injuries are one of the biggest health problems and can be one of the top five causes of death in the world.
The article analyzes road accidents by type of “Pedestrian collision”.
The most dangerous places for pedestrians are given. These include pedestrian crossings on highways that pass through cities, towns and villages. Because they often have a factor of high speed transit cars. Unregulated crossings in large cities are also at increased risk, especially on streets with two or more lanes in each direction.
The main risk factors for road traffic injuries of pedestrians at unregulated pedestrian crossings are identified.
It is proved that in Ukraine the level of deaths and injuries due to road accidents is one of the highest in Europe.
The purpose of this article is to increase pedestrian safety by introducing modern technical means of traffic organization, considering the best European experience.
