IMPROVING THE CAMOUFLAGE PROPERTIES OF THE BARS-8 ARMORED CAR BY REDUCING ITS EXTERNAL NOISE LEVEL

Abstract. Military vehicles, in addition to well-known production, operational, consumer and safety requirements, are also subject to specific requirements, in particular regarding ballistic and antimine protection, camouflage ability. Camouflage is a set of measures aimed at hiding one’s troops from enemy observation. In camouflage, the most important law of war is realized: “If you don’t detect it, you don’t hit the target.” To camouflage means to make military objects imperceptible, invisible to the enemy. This is achieved by influencing the enemy’s mental activity in order to create illusions of perception. Such illusions include: visual, sound, kinesthetic. Sound barriers include noise barriers, in which it is necessary to hide the noise of military equipment or “quiet” military equipment with a low level of external noise. This work examines the improvement of camouflage properties of a military vehicle, which are extremely important and in turn depend on a number of factors: overall dimensions, body coating (thermal radiation) and external noise level. One of the biggest noises of cars is the noise of exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, which is reduced with the help of appropriate mufflers. For a military vehicle, it is expedient to create a new muffler, which would be fundamentally different from the existing ones. The developed silencer for the armored car “Bars-8” is given. When developing the muffler, the popular in optics model of an absolutely black body in the form of an isolated macrocavity with a small hole was taken as a basis: the beam, having entered the cavity through the hole, undergoes multiple reflections, is partially absorbed during each of them and practically does not return from there. The developed muffler “black hole” ensures multiple reflection of sound waves from the internal surfaces of a spherical shape. A mathematical model of the operation of this muffler was developed, which is based on taking into account the multiple reflection of sound waves from the surface and the sound absorption coefficient of the muffler surfaces. It was established that the muffler efficiency in the low frequency range is 23 dB. A forecast of the dependence of the external noise level of the Bars-8 armored car on the speed of movement was made.
